POPULATION IN BALANCE

The present population is unsustainable. People breed unchecked with most babies born to parents too poor or too incompetent to raise their young. Many are born accidentally to parents who would rather not incur the burden of a child. In addition, advancements in medicine and technology are keeping people alive longer and sustaining those who would naturally die. All these require vast resources to survive and even greater resources to provide them the unnecessary goods rampant capitalism has brainwashed them into believing they need. These people and the industries that support them generate great amounts of waste that the planet struggles to process. Increasingly, overburdened cities are thriving centers of criminal enterprises and desperate acts of violence as those in the lower economic strata try to get what they need or are driven to the breaking point of insanity by the stress of life in such dirty, violent environments. We can wait until we destroy the environment completely and kill ourselves in the process, we can create the perfect conditions to allow for a pandemic virus to indiscriminately kill millions, or we can use our intellect to solve the problem for our future and our planet's future.

For a simple problem, there is a simple solution: everyone will be implanted with a birth control device that will require passing a series of psychological testing and resource review to have removed. This device, still under design, will be unobtrusive and of inert material so as to not interfere with the daily life of the individual. The test will be taken by computer with a non-sequential number assigned to the test-taking couple before the answers go to random members of a Resource Committee review board to eliminate biased approvals/disapprovals. Upon passing the tests, the couple can have the device removed at their will and proceed as anyone would with the conception of a child. There will be no limits to the number of children an approved couple can have, though they will have to prove that they have the resources to support however many they may choose.

The creation of surplus babies for sale will be prohibited unless approved by the Resource Committee for sale to approved couples that cannot naturally conceive only.
